The Wind in the Trees

For anyone curious about the simplicity of just following Jesus

Why Can’t We Be More Like Chatgpt?

Like many of you, I have been blown away by AI sites like Chatgpt. With the ability to dialogue with our own super knowledgeable tutor 24/7, the sky’s the limit for learning . But I’ve discovered another reason why human knowledge could explode–AI doesn’t have a fault that we do.

I use AI sites for a variety of reasons, one of which is coding, something I know virtually nothing about. As I ask the same questions over again or constantly ask for clarification, I notice a fear creeping up in me. Will I be exasperating my partner in dialogue? But the anticipated irritability never arrives. Chatgpt never gets tired of my dumb questions, but always takes time to try to help. It is infinitely patient.

To learn we must ask questions and how often are people afraid to ask out of fear? Fear they might get a short-tempered response? Fear they may be shamed and made to look stupid for their lack of understanding?

“Love is patient”1 a famous passage tells us. And so God calls us to be patient with one another. The wonderful news is that this virtue grows in us as we simply follow Jesus.2 Like all fruit of the Spirit, it is activated by faith. Let’s expect a new level of patience and kindness in this Christmas season as we celebrate the birth of the One who is infinitely patient with us!
